General Motors Canada and its Dealers Donate More Than $168,000 to Durham Children’s Aid Foundation

OSHAWA, Ont. (December 13, 2023) – Today, a fleet of Oshawa-built pick-up trucks delivered more than $168,000 in gifts and donations from GM Canada and its nationwide dealers to the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF). That includes $95,250 donated by GM dealers across Canada, and more than $73,000 in gifts and monetary donations from GM Canada and our employees for the DCAF Holiday Hope program.

This holiday tradition honours the legacy of Sharon Clark, who started Sharon’s Kids at Oshawa Assembly in 1968 to provide holiday gifts to children in need. Since 2018, GM Canada, its dealers and employees have raised more than $1 million for Sharon’s Kids, now part of DCAF.

“I’m so proud of our generous employees and dealers who came together to support this program that began 55 years ago,” said Marissa West, GM Canada president and managing director. “I want to thank everyone for helping to continue Sharon’s legacy by making the holidays brighter for kids and families in the Durham Region.”

“I’m incredibly proud of our team for supporting a record number of families this year, and for their unwavering commitment to continue Sharon’s legacy,” said Thorsten Koseck, Oshawa Assembly Plant Director. “Having been involved with the Sharon’s Kids Program for over 30 years, I’m constantly reminded of Sharon’s profound impact on our community.”

This year, GM Canada held a dealer only contest for the opportunity for the winning dealer to purchase the last 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Collector Edition built for Canada. Eighty GM dealers from across Canada donated a total of $95,250 for DCAF. The winning dealer is Go North Surrey GM in Surrey, BC.

“We appreciate the opportunity to pay it forward and support a cause as worthy as Sharon’s Kids,” said Bob Hewitt, Vice President of Go Auto. “We are thrilled to bring the last Camaro ZL1 built for Canada to Go North Surrey and we have special plans for this iconic vehicle.”

“The Durham Children’s Aid Foundation is extremely grateful for the ongoing support we receive from GM Canada and their network of dealers across Canada,” said Julie Van Hartingsveldt, Executive Director of Durham Children’s Aid Foundation. “With their continued support of the Annual Holiday Hope campaign, we can have a meaningful impact on the lives of over 1,000 children and youth living in vulnerable family situations.”
